Trade and Economic Security

This Commission department is responsible for developing the EU's trade and economic security-related policies, and for the EU's trade relations with the rest of the world.

Responsibilities

The Directorate-General for Trade (DG TRADE) develops and carries out the Commission's policies on trade and economic security.

The mission of this Commission department is to pursue and promote open, rules-based trade between the EU and non-EU countries. EU trade with the rest of the world creates and supports jobs in Europe, and it benefits European businesses, farmers and consumers. The EU's trade policies help to reduce our economic dependencies on non-EU countries and to prevent disruption to global supply chains – thereby helping to increase the EU's economic security.
